After more than a decade of highly publicized litigation, JMBM client, (the estate of) E. Pierce Marshall, prevailed over claims made by the estate of Anna Nicole Smith. Smith attempted to obtain half of the fortune of J. Howard Marshall, although nearly all his assets were left to his son, Pierce Marshall. After years of hearings, trials, and appeals, including two to the Supreme Court, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of our client, determining that the federal bankruptcy court that awarded Smith $475 million in 2000, did not have constitutional authority to try a probate case.
